Diana didn’t like the dark very much. When it was bedtime, she imagined a monster might be hiding in her room. "I think there’s a monster under my bed," Diana told her Daddy one night.
Daddy sat on the edge of her bed and said, "Shall we look together?" Holding hands, they checked under the bed with a flashlight. No monster, just some socks and books.
"How about we make a deal with the nighttime?" Daddy suggested. "We’ll ask it to take care of us, and we take care of each other. Monsters don’t like it when we’re brave together."
That night, Diana tried not to feel scared. She remembered Daddy’s words. "Nighttime, let’s be friends," she whispered. She cuddled her teddy bear and felt a bit braver.
Diana learned that the dark wasn’t so scary after all. It was just another part of the day, and she could find bravery inside her. Plus, she knew her Daddy was right there, making her feel safe and loved. The nighttime became a friend, full of dreams and rest, and Diana wasn’t afraid anymore.
